What is SAP SuccessFactors?

SAP SuccessFactors is SAP's cloud HR suite, covering the entire HR spectrum: master data, recruiting, learning, performance, and payroll. The suite originated from the US provider SuccessFactors, acquired in 2012, and is used by over 10,000 companies worldwide.

The suite truly shines in international structures: a single HR system for all country subsidiaries, including local payroll and compliance rules, tightly integrated with SAP S/4HANA and the rest of the SAP stack. Its learning platform and succession planning also meet corporate group requirements.

Personio can be implemented for mid-sized businesses in weeks instead of months and is significantly more affordable; Workday is its direct enterprise competitor with more modern interfaces. SuccessFactors' weaknesses include implementation often taking over a year, requiring an implementation partner, and a user interface that can feel outdated in places.

It's suitable for companies with approximately 1,000 employees or a clear SAP strategy; implementation is a project with its own budget and steering committee. For SMEs, it's overkill – you're better off with Personio.
