PhotoDirector

PhotoDirector is the photo editing software from CyberLink, the Taiwanese manufacturer behind PowerDirector. It combines classic image editing with layers and RAW development with AI features like sky replacement, object removal, and generative backgrounds.

‍

Typical uses include polishing photos for company marketing, retouching portraits, and restoring old images. Its strength lies in its value for money: The 365 subscription costs a regular 79.99 euros per year, often much less on sale, and continuously includes new AI tools plus stock material. Mobile apps for iOS and Android cover on-the-go editing.

‍

Compared to Photoshop and Lightroom, PhotoDirector falls short in professional workflows and plugins, and its community is smaller: you'll find a much larger number of tutorials, presets, and help forums for Adobe products. However, it's quicker to learn and the subscription is significantly cheaper. Some AI features are more gimmicks than essential tools.

‍

Ideal for freelancers and hobby photographers who want more than Canva but don't want an Adobe subscription. Those who professionally edit images daily are better off sticking with the Adobe standard, with its ecosystem of plugins and training.
