Personio is an HR platform from Munich and the most well-known solution for digital HR management among SMEs in the DACH region. It combines employee records, time tracking, recruiting, and preliminary payroll in one system.
Day-to-day, vacation requests are handled via self-service instead of email, onboarding tasks start automatically, applications from your own career page go directly into the system, and payroll receives clean data for DATEV. Its strength: a single system for the entire employee lifecycle, built for companies with 10 to 2,000 employees.
SAP SuccessFactors offers more depth for large corporations but involves an implementation project lasting several months; Factorial and HiBob compete with Personio on price but are less common in the DACH region. Its weakness: Costs increase noticeably with modules and employee count, and specific pricing is only available upon request.
It's suitable for around 20 employees or more, when Excel spreadsheets and paper files start to become a hindrance. Plan for several weeks of data maintenance during implementation. For five-person teams, Personio is oversized.
