Magnific

Magnific is an AI upscaler from Spain that enhances small or blurry images, generating new details in the process. The tool gained recognition in 2023 through viral before-and-after examples, Freepik acquired the company in 2024 and renamed itself Magnific in April 2026. The upscaler is now one part of a large creative platform with image and video generation, audio, and a stock library.

Typical uses include making Midjourney images print-ready, refreshing old product photos, and sharpening architectural renderings. Its strength is the creativity slider: you control via prompt and slider how much the AI invents new details, up to 16x magnification. Presets for portraits, illustrations, and landscapes handle the fine-tuning for you.

This is also its weakness: Magnific hallucinates. Faces, logos, or product details can change, which is tricky for e-commerce photos. Topaz Gigapixel works more faithfully but appears less spectacular. And Magnific isn't cheap; the subscription is only worthwhile with regular use.

It's right for creatives who want to enhance AI images or renderings and can live with invented details. It's wrong for faithful enlargements, such as product or documentation photos, and for anyone who only occasionally wants to enlarge an image.
