Lexware Office is the Haufe Group's cloud accounting solution and has carried this name since 2024; before that, it was known as lexoffice, but the renaming has not changed the product itself. It is aimed at freelancers and small businesses who manage their own accounting.
You create invoices, categorize bank transactions based on suggestions, submit your VAT return to the tax office, and give your tax firm direct access or provide the DATEV export. Its strength is the integrated payroll function, which hardly any competitor offers in this price range.
sevDesk is cheaper to start with and generally similarly comprehensive; DATEV remains the standard if your tax firm dictates the process. Its weakness: Lexware Office reaches its limits with custom evaluations and more complex company structures, and a later system change can be a headache.
Ideal for founders and businesses with up to about ten employees, especially if you want integrated payroll. If you work closely with your tax firm, consider DATEV first.
