Leonardo Ai is an image generation platform from Australia, acquired by Canva in 2024. Unlike Midjourney, it emphasizes control: model selection, custom style training, and a canvas editor make it more of a production tool than an inspiration engine.

Leonardo is used for game assets, product visualizations, marketing graphics, and consistent image series – in other words, wherever the same style needs to be maintained across many subjects. You can train your own models with a few dozen sample images directly in the browser, without a single line of code.

Midjourney often produces more striking individual images for free-form artistic subjects, while Firefly offers a clearer path regarding licensing. In contrast, Leonardo's interface feels cluttered, and the selection of dozens of models tends to overwhelm beginners rather than help them. The token system also takes some getting used to.
