What is Hootsuite?

Hootsuite is one of the oldest social media management tools, available since 2008. It combines planning, publishing, message management, social listening, and reporting for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, and YouTube in a single dashboard.

Typical uses include managing multiple brand accounts as a team, centrally responding to comments and messages, approval workflows for posts, and conducting competitive benchmarking. Its strength lies in its depth for teams: roles, approvals, and analytics that Buffer doesn't offer in this form. The central inbox consolidates comments and messages from all networks in one place.

However, you pay a hefty price for it: Entry-level plans start at around $100 per month, and many features are only available in higher-tier plans. Buffer handles pure scheduling for a fraction of the price, and Mention handles pure monitoring. Additionally, the interface can feel cluttered in places.

Ideal for marketing teams and agencies with multiple accounts, approval processes, and reporting obligations. For solo entrepreneurs, it's overkill and too expensive — Buffer is sufficient for that.
