ElevenLabs is the market leader in AI-generated voices. What sets this tool apart from older text-to-speech software is that the voices breathe, emphasize, and pause like humans. Relevant for German speakers: even the German voices sound natural, not like a GPS device.

It's used for voiceovers in product and explainer videos, podcast production, audiobook versions of texts, and increasingly for phone agents who answer and qualify calls. With Voice Cloning, you can voice content using your own voice without speaking into a microphone, for instance, for multilingual versions of the same video.

OpenAI and Google offer text-to-speech at a lower price, but their voices sound flatter and offer less control. The catch with ElevenLabs is the pricing for high volume: anyone producing long audio daily will quickly find themselves in the higher-tier plans. For a few videos per week, however, it remains manageable.
