DALL-E is OpenAI's image generator and was the tool that brought AI images to the mainstream. The current version, DALL-E 3, was released in 2023 and is built right into ChatGPT: You describe the image in the chat, and ChatGPT automatically refines the prompt in the background.
Typical uses include blog illustrations, social media graphics, and quick concept images for presentations. Its strength from the beginning has been its text comprehension; DALL-E renders even complex descriptions with multiple objects with surprising accuracy.
To be honest, DALL-E is becoming obsolete: OpenAI has switched image generation in ChatGPT to the GPT-Image models, which handle text in images and detail better. Midjourney delivers more aesthetically pleasing images, and Adobe Firefly offers a more straightforward licensing model for marketing materials.
It's a good fit if you're already working in ChatGPT and need straightforward images; the specific model name behind it hardly matters there anymore. For high-quality brand visuals, Midjourney or Firefly are generally the better options.
