What is Bolt?

Bolt.new is StackBlitz's AI app builder. You describe your app in the browser, the AI generates the code, and thanks to WebContainer technology, the complete Node.js environment, including the terminal, runs directly in the tab. After launching in late 2024, Bolt gained over three million users within a few months.

Typical uses include prototypes, functional landing pages, small SaaS ideas, and mobile apps via Expo. Its strength compared to pure chat builders: you see the code, can directly edit any file, and install packages just like in a real IDE. You can take projects with you anytime via GitHub export.

Lovable guides beginners more smoothly through the process and integrates Supabase more tightly, while Replit offers a complete cloud development environment. Bolt's weakness: with larger codebases, every change consumes tokens, and costs are difficult to predict.

Suitable for tech-savvy founders and developers who want to quickly build prototypes while maintaining code control. Those who never want to touch code would be better off with Lovable or Glide.
